You and your partner have been feeling a little disconnected lately. It’s hard to find time to really talk in the midst of the everyday chaos. Or maybe you do talk, but it’s all business and you’re tired of just talking about the day’s latest events. You miss feeling connected, having fun together, and let’s be honest here… the romance.
Our marriage counseling practice has experience working with couples from all over Florida. We often work with couples in:
We hear stories every day of married couples or people in long-term relationships who get to that point where they just need to get away. While a big vacation isn’t always possible. Sometimes, taking a little break without even leaving the state can be just what you need. Here is a couple of great spots for a weekend romantic getaway right here in Florida:
Amelia Island
Amelia Island is a great getaway spot in Northeastern Florida. This is one of the barrier islands near Florida. It includes low-key beaches, excellent golf courses, natural wildlife, spas, and great seafood.
Amelia Island offers couples activities such as:
The bottom line is that this quick getaway offers a little bit of everything. It provides a great opportunity for couples trying to get away and spend some time together.
Naples
Naples can be great for couples looking for time outdoors with an upscale location. It’s a nice mix of relaxation and exciting activities to choose from.
First of all, Naples is known for its beaches. The beaches around Naples are incredible for going for a stroll together. Couples can go swimming in the Gulf of Mexico or lay on the beautiful white-sand beaches. Additionally, the historic Naples Pier is a must-do for every couple in the area. It’s an incredible walk to make hand in hand as you look out over the water and enjoy one another’s company.
When you’ve had your fill of the beach, there are plenty of other fun activities to do in the Naples area as well. You may choose to tour the Everglades, visit the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary or visit a Spa such as the Naples Grande.
Tampa Bay Area
Are you a sports-loving couple? The Tampa Bay area may be a fun destination! If you’re an avid sports fan, you likely already know about the sports teams in the area. But as a review, the Tampa area is home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL team, and the NHL team, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Furthermore, many MLB teams such as the Tampa Bay Rays hold their spring training camps in the area. So, even if you’re not a Rays fan, you may be able to catch your team if you come at the right time of year!
But, at the end of the day, Tampa Bay is about more than sports. Tampa Bay has plenty to offer whether you live in the area and are looking for a date night or want to get away as a couple. There are hot air balloons, a drive-in movie theater, live jazz, and sunset boat tours. Or, you may want to walk along Bayshore Boulevard in downtown Tampa on the world’s longest sidewalk. Together, you can enjoy the palm trees, views of the bay, and the Tampa skyline. In fact, you can even eat in Florida’s oldest restaurant.
Miami Beach
Sometimes, you may be looking for a little excitement when you’re planning a romantic getaway. Your marriage may have fallen into a little rut and you want to have fun together again. Often, experiencing new and/or thrilling things can make you feel closer as a couple. Exploring new areas and seeing sights with each other can start great conversations for weeks. It can also give you memories that last a lifetime. If this sounds like what you’re needing, Miami Beach might be a great choice for a short romantic getaway.
Miami Beach has lots of options for the couple trying to have a little fun together! You can feel closer and create lasting memories by trying something new together. You may like parasailing, paddleboards, or even taking a private sailing charter. Or, you may fit in a little exploring around the Miami Beach Botanic Garden. You can even sightsee in the Art Deco Historic District or view contemporary art at The Bass.

Boca Raton
Boca Raton, in my opinion, is a destination that actually has it all. You will never get bored when you visit.
If you two are golfers, then this is very a great place for you to visit. Spend some time on one of the world-renowned golf courses and take in the great scenery. If golf isn’t your thing, then check out the jazz clubs and concerts at Mizner Park. Or, you may prefer to wine and dine at a beach restaurant? Boca Raton has a wide variety of restaurants to suit all taste pallets. from the pickiest eater to a culinary aficionado, everyone can find something to love!
After a fun day in the sun, relax at one of their award-winning hotels. You may like the Boca Raton Resort and Club to unwind and relax as a couple.
Palm Beach
Last but not least is Palm Springs! Palm Springs is a personal favorite for many couples wanting to reconnect and rekindle their relationship. So many couples come for romance and connection. Here you will find beautiful beaches, sun, warm water, and best of all, few crowds. It’s easy to see why couples enjoy visiting this location. In fact, it’s Coined America’s First Resort Destination!
One of the best things about Palm Beach is the many outdoor activities you and your partner can engage in. From boating to paddle boarding, to snorkeling, to lounging on the beach. There’s something for everyone. If you prefer animals and adventure, consider visiting Lion Country Safari or the Florida Everglades!
After a fun-filled day outside, relax and enjoy a beautiful dinner on the beach. What’s better than spending time with your partner and listening to the waves crash on the shore?
Tips for Enjoying Your Romantic Getaway
The truth is that our state is full of amazing places for couples to get away and have some time to themselves. It is easy to get excited about a romantic getaway. But, it’s important to set yourself up for a trip that meets your needs as a couple at the moment. Let’s talk about how to get the most out of the trip.
Discuss Your Goals & Priorities Ahead of Time
Are you hoping to relax on the beach all day except for a possible quick trip to the spa? Or, are you looking for adventure and to make memories together? Is this trip all about romance? Whatever you’re hoping to get from this trip, discuss your and your partner’s wishes ahead of time. This way, you’re on the same page and can plan around your joint priorities when you arrive.
This is Time for the Two of You
If the purpose of this trip is to reconnect or to invest in your relationship, make sure it’s all about the two of you. It can be tempting to join up with a group of friends and that can be GREAT. But, that makes it a whole other kind of trip. Some couples have difficulty staying focused even when it is only the two of them. So, watch your phone usage. All that FaceTiming, texting & emailing can wait until later. This trip is for you and your partner.
Look for Moments That Bring You Together
You can find these moments in deep conversations over a meal or learning something new. Take experiencing the thrill of hang gliding as an example. The goal here is that you’re spending time feeling connected and creating memories.
Also, it can be tempting for some couples to split up and do their own thing. But if this trip is meant to be about each of you, be sure to seek out special moments that will appeal to each of you. Or, you can take turns joining the other one on something they would naturally prefer. You can even consider doing an activity that is new to both of you or that is outside the comfort zone for each of you. If you decide to take some time to yourself, make sure you come back together later in the day. And, make sure that this is only a small part of the whole trip.
Romantic Getaways Allow You to Focus on Your Relationship
We offer marriage counseling and affair recovery for couples in Florida. Our counseling practice has seen couples from every walk of life. And, in every stage of a relationship or marriage. We can see relationship tears form. We see the pain that can follow when a couple drifts apart. And, we’ve seen the aftermath of betrayals such as an affair. So, we know better than most that relationships are hard work. There’s no doubt about it.
Every couple goes through their version of difficult times. But, spending meaningful time focused on one another can help. Quality time can go a long way toward helping you turn toward one another. It also shows dedication to your relationship or marriage. Trips don’t have to be grand stays in a villa overseas or two-week cruises in the Caribbean. Of course, you want to plan for these larger trips. But, don’t underestimate the value of smaller, in-state trips as well. Sometimes a three-day weekend a couple of hours from home can be exactly what you need. A marriage counselor can encourage couples to plan these shorter, relationship-focused trips. Try and work them into your schedule from time to time.
